Instagram offers its users a list of tunes in its library. You can also add music from external sources like Spotify, SoundCloud, and Shazam etc. This music sticker feature is available on both iOS and Android phones. But in case if you are unable to find it then first update your Instagram app to get the latest version. Let’s learn how to add music to Instagram stories through a step by step process.

How To Add Music To Instagram Story – Step By Step

Step 1: First of all click on the Instagram app and swipe right to get the “Camera”  or you can tap the “Camera” icon to click your picture or swipe up to open the mobile’s “Gallery”. Select an image or video from there and then from the top of the screen apply filters of your choice or provide special effects to make it more attractive and interesting. Then click on the “Done” button on the right corner of the screen.

Step 2: Now you are ready to add music to your story. At the top of the screen you can see a square-shaped smiley sticker icon, just tap on the icon or just swipe up. You will get several stickers option on the screen.

Step 3: Among those stickers, you can see the Music sticker. Just tap the “Music” sticker.

Step 4: After tapping on the “Music” sticker you will get a list of tunes under the “For You” option. From this, you can select your favorite song. If currently, you don’t have any idea to select a song, then tap on the “Browse” option and get some idea through Popular Genres (hip hop, rock, classic and Jazz), or Moods. Apart from this, you can also use the “Search” field at the top of the screen to look for a particular tune. Type the name of your song and tap the “Play” button to listen to a short clip.

Step 5: After the selection of the song from the list, just tap on it to add it to your story. With the help of slider, you can select the portion of the song to be added. You can also, select the portion of the song by just scrolling on the lyrics of the song which is currently present on the screen.

Note: The music can be added maximum for 15 seconds only on a static image. But if you have a video in your story then Instagram cuts into separate 15-second segments, the music will play throughout the video.

Step 6: Now look at the left bottom corner of the screen and you will get two options there: “Your story”, “Close friends” and on the right there is an option “Send to”. Now simply select “Your Story” option to publish your story.

Step 7: You can also restrict your viewers by either tapping on “Close Friends” to send it to a selected group of people, or by tapping on “Send To” to select any person. Now simply select the “Done” button. Now your Instagram story is ready with the music sticker. Yes, believe me, it is that simple.

You can also change the image by tapping the photo thumbnail. Here you find that with some songs you get multiple images and with some lyrics appear on the screen as the music plays. You can set the position of the sticker into your story with the help of your finger. You can also resize the sticker by using two fingers through expanding or contracting it. With the twist of two fingers, you can also change the orientation of the sticker.

If you want to return to the previous screen just double-tap on it and the appearance of the sticker gets change at this moment, and then to go back to your story just tap on “Done”. For a video, you can do much more with your sticker before posting your story. Hold down on the sticker and you will be able to pin the sticker to a specific person or object in the video. This means the sticker will move along with the object as it moves in the video.

Adding Music From An External Service

Adding music to your story can also be possible from external sources. If you have the mobile app for Spotify, SoundCloud, or Shazam then you can avail the exciting features of Instagram.

  • Open the Spotify app. Select a song which you want to share through an Instagram story.
  • Tap the ellipses icon and choose the Share option. Among the share options, you will get for Instagram Stories. Tap that and you’re taken to your Instagram story, where your selected song appears with its cover art.
  • Now you can add text, stickers, and other effects to your story.
  • Tap the “Your Story” icon to post the story with the song you have selected.

Add Music From SoundCloud To Instagram

  • Open the SoundCloud app. Select the song you want to add to your story.
  • Tap the Share icon for that song and select Share to Instagram Stories to import the song into the Instagram app.

Add Music From Shazam To Instagram Stories

This is different from other music services. This Apple-owned Shazam analyzes a song you’re already listening to and identifies it for you. It’s particularly helpful when you don’t know who performed a song or can’t remember the song title. You can also get the app to play music and send it to Instagram.

  • Open the Shazam app. If there’s music playing near you, allow the app to recognize the song then tap the song in Shazam.
  • Tap the More icon, select Share, and then tap the option for Instagram Stories to send the song and its artwork to the Instagram app.
